Trainings on formulation of the regional action plans on child wellbeing

A series of trainings was held by the team of experts on formulation of the regional action plans on child wellbeing. In the spotlight: child wellbeing

The Fund has formulated the International Programme “Children of Aral” in close cooperation with the government agencies and NGOs. The Programme is an essential of the National Plan of Actions for implementation of the Minimum Age Convention and the Convention concerning the Prohibition and Immediate Action for the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labor ratified by Uzbekistan in 2008.   “Children of Aral” is a strategic paper with an overall goal to enhance child wellbeing in the region

GEF IFAS will expand the afforestation area on the former bottom of the Aral Sea

GEF IFAS started formulation of the Terms of reference for afforestation of the 20,000 hectares on the former bottom of the sea. Previously the Agency afforested 10,000 hectares in the Northern part of the Aral Sea region. Particularly two years ago the Agency planted tamarisk, saxaul  and others allowed to reduce salt transmission more than two times. The World Bank provided grants for the projects on rational water use

On June 26 the Central Asian fare on effective use of water resources in agriculture was held in Poytaht business-center. 39 finalists from 5 Central Asian states (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) gathered to represent their projects and seek funding for their implementation. Total budget is $300,000. Project budgets varied from $10,000 to $25,000. Aral Sea problems will only be fixed by regional cooperation, UN stresses

Resolving the problems caused by the drying out of the Aral Sea, which has shrunk drastically in size in recent decades because of the inefficient use of water resources and climate change, will only happen when the countries of Central Asia work together, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) says.
