Environment

Wild flora of Uzbekistan counts 3 thousand species of higher plants, numerous endemics and relics. For the last decade the number of rare and endangered species included into the Red Book of Uzbekistan increased from 163 up to 301, which is 8 per cent of the whole national flora.

Many species were included into the Red Book due to intensive and uncontrolled collection and processing of wild-growing plants including tulips, desert-candles, peonies, Lagochilus inebrians Bunge, etc. Recently some other species became endangered, in particular licorice, barberry, Cuminum cyminum, etc.
